Oct 8th, 2010

I decided to make a road trip out of the trip north
to NY...My original plan was to go over to TN and
KY and then head through WV to Pittsburgh to
see an old HS friend I hadn't seen in 30+ years...But
as I started out I decided to cut the TN and KY
portion out which would give me more time to
stop and take pix along the way.
It was a gorgeous day and in the upper 60's when
I left.

Pilot Mountain as I'm getting near Mount Airy
(aka Mayberry USA).

Since I was going right by "Mayberry" I decided to
stop by and see some Andy Griffith stuff...Little did
I realize they were having a street fair and they
had Main Street shut down....This was just like the
fairs I grew up around and I so miss them.

The Visitor Center with the old town clock on
it still.

Barney is still on duty.

Some pickin' and some grinnin'. Complete with banjos,
guitars, fiddles, washboards and washtub.

Some old fashion soda. I had birch beer and it was
awesome.

Donkey rides for the kids.

Opie's Candy Store

The Original Floyd's Barber Shop.

The man who inspired "Floyd". He cut Andy's hair for
many years.

Andy's home as a kid.

Mayberry's police car.

Looking back towards Mount Airy.

New River Gorge, WV

What a view!

More of WV before heading into PA.
